Undergraduate
B.A Journalism
The journalism area’s mission is to train students to gather, write, edit, photograph and present the news with excellence in print and on the Web. Our program is committed to journalism’s primary role in a free society: Nurturing the democratic process by informing the public about events, trends and developments in government and society. This core value is at the heart of every writing, editing, photography and survey course in the program. The area offers a BA in journalism and a minor in magazine journalism. The program is limited access based on grade point average and accepts approximately 20 new majors in each of the fall, spring, and summer terms. Journalism has approximately 90 majors and six full-time faculty members. Students receive hands-on instruction from dedicated professors in small classes held in three fully wired writing and editing labs. A complement of professional clubs, including the Society of Professional Journalists and National Press Photographers Association, gives students opportunities for leadership and networking with professionals in the publishing industry.
Internships are often the beginning of successful careers for students. The majority of internships are taken for academic credit and the academic department helps find, approves the internship and supervises the intern. Click Here for Journalism Internships.
