Biography

Dr. Steve J. Collins is an assistant professor who regularly teaches magazine editing, communication law and media effects. He's been published in such journals as Newspaper Research Journal, Journalism & Mass Communication Educator, and College Media Review. Along with a coauthor, Collins earned top faculty paper honors in the Scholastic Journalism Division at the 2003 meeting of the Association for Education in Journalism & Mass Communication. Collins has approximately nine years of experience as a journalist, including four years of fulltime reporter in the Kansas City area. He was twice named one of the top five sports columnists in Missouri, and the Kansas Press Association honored him for his work as a business journalist. He earned a doctoral degree in Communication from Syracuse University after earning a master of arts in mass communication and a bachelor of arts in journalism at the University of Iowa.
