Biography

Dr. Chandler earned his B.A. in Speech/ Social Science at Harding College; his M.A. in Communication at Wake Forest University; and his Ph.D. in Communication Studies at the University of Kansas. He served 12 years as an Assistant and Associate Professor of Communication at Illinois State University. He also was elected to the faculty of the Graduate School of Illinois State University. He comes to the Nicholson School from Pepperdine University in Malibu, California, where he served as a Professor for the past 11 years and as Chair of the Communication Division at Pepperdine for the past six years. Dr. Chandler’s primary teaching areas include communication theory, organizational communication, intercultural communication, crisis and emergency communication, and public relations. He also served as an instructor on the faculty of the Pepperdine University School of Law Stratus Institute for Dispute Resolution where he has taught communication and conflict courses in the mediation and dispute resolution program and served as thesis advisor for MDR graduate students. Dr. Chandler is an internationally recognized expert in the area of crisis.
